Testing my tissue flash diffuser

When taking photos of anything that is reflective, that irritating spot of your flash reflecting back at you in the photo is obviously very visible (ignore the top part of the poster, that's the reflection of my room's fluorescent lamp). Both photos are taken using the same settings. The one on the left has a huge reflection of the camera's flash. The one on the right has a reflection of the camera's flash, less irritating though, at least I'm able to see Ike clearly in this one.

The purpose of this post is just to show the new poster that I just bought.

Model shoot in the snow

These models were very cooperative even though it was freezing out there. This is the first snow of this winter.

Funny Chicken Video

I saw this video and thought it was rather interesting to watch.

My own version of a Ramly Burger

I just made my own version of a Ramly Burger for lunch.

1 sesame seed burger bun
1 quarter pound beef burger
1 egg
Some lettuce
Chilli sauce

It tasted very nice and is considerable an easy meal with preparation time under 10 minutes.

1) Defrost quarter pound beef burger - 2 min
2) Cook quarter pound beef burger - 4 min
3) Cook egg - 1 min
4) Add quarter pound beef burger, egg, lettuce & chilli sauce to sesame seed burger bun - 2 min

The seemingly non-stop snow

It has been snowing since yesterday.

I don't get a lot of opportunities to take photos of Citroen C4's here.

Who's the pretty boy

What's in the box?

My Crumpler Pretty Boy XL arrived in the mail.

Pretty Boy out of the box, still in its plastic packaging.

Pretty Boy posing for a photo.

The insides of Pretty Boy, enough space to fit 1 camera body and additional lens/flash.

I suppose I got used to my 1000D. I found taking photos with the S80 weird, attributing it to the huge difference in weight. The 1000D was nearly double the weight of the S80. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the bag. I hope it doesn't disappoint when I bring it out for its first outing next weekend.

I would love to bring my 1000D for the paintball trip, I'm not really willing to take the risk though. Thus, I have decided to bring the S80 instead. I'm definitely looking forward to paintball this weekend. The paintball soc also changed the date for their first paintball session to the 1st Saturday of December, I may go for that session as well. I shall see how it goes, only have to confirm next week.

Photography: UEA Broad

This is the river Yare which is part of the Norfolk Broad.

The mandarin duck appeared out of nowhere and happened to land in that spot in  this photo.

This couple were swimming very close to the riverside which gave me the opportunity to take a few shots.

The ticket is here

Beside receiving the package, I also received my ticket to the NEC Bike Show.

Counting down ......
15 more days to Birmingham.
29 more days to London.
31 more days to Singapore.
36 more days to Bangkok.
47 more days to end of 2008.
57 more days to Norwich...again.

Christmas too early?

See what I received in my mail today?

A parcel from Singapore. Is it a Christmas present sent out too early?

It's a birthday present from another double ten birthday girl. It arrived on time however I didn't manage to pick it up until today.

What's inside: A very nice card and a t-shirt (sadly, not my size)

A new home for my EOS DSLR

I placed an order through Amazon yesterday night for a camera shoulder bag and a SD high capacity (SDHC) card. I have to say the retailers are rather efficient, hopefully I will be able to receive the items before my Norfolk Coast trip this weekend.

  • Crumpler Pretty Boy Maxi 4000 XL (pictured above)
    - The bag can fit my EOS 1000D with attached lens & additional lens or flash. The ideal bag for my current setup.
  • Sandisk 8GB SDHC card
    - If I were to take RAW format, the card will be able to accomodate about 800 photos. Else, with large/fine format, the card will be able to accomodate about 2000 photos.

Rabbits around campus

Finally I managed to capture a shot of a rabbit that roams around campus

Ceilidh

Canon EOS 1000D

I just bought my first DSLR today at JessOps @ Chapelfield. It comes bundled with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, priced at GBP 349.99/-. Canon UK is now offering a GBP 30 cashback, sending out the cashback request soon. As I'm writing this entry, I'm getting the battery charged. Hopefully it will charge in time for the ceilidh later. I may need to get a camera bag soon, it seems rather dangerous to be leaving the camera just lying around unprotected.

Lens & accessories I'm aiming to get next:
1) Camera bag
2) UWA lens
3) External flash unit

"Araawy Maak" Thai Roast Chicken

It has been a while since my last update on this blog. I have taken ill for the past few days, down with fever & sore throat.

Yesterday, since I was feeling better, I decided to try using one of the packet meat marinades Mum sent me. I chose the Thai Kai Yang because it is the one closest to expiry. I probably didn't marinate it long enough, either that or I didn't use enough of the marinade. It doesn't taste as nice as it smells or looks. I will try to improve during my next attempt which should be soon, since I shouldn't really leave the open packet of marinade for too long.

Note: The piece of chicken which looks very red, that's not blood nor is it uncooked, that's the marinade.
